Water Line Tapping Kits for Pressurized Pipeline Work

Tapping into a live water line involves bolting a tapping adapter and valve onto the pipe, mounting a tapping machine such as the TM100 or TM200, and using a hole saw with pilot drill to cut the pipe wall under full pressure. The valve is then closed, isolating the new connection without interrupting water service.

After the tap is completed, a corporation stop or service connection fitting is threaded or flanged onto the tapped outlet, and the supply pipe is joined using couplings or adapters sized to match. Pressure testing confirms a leak-free connection before the line is placed into full service.

Machine sizing depends on pipe diameter: the TM100 handles 3/4" to 6" taps, TM200 and TM250 cover 3" to 14", TM300 handles 12" to 30", and the TM400 and TM6120 extend capability up to 72" diameter for large water mains and industrial pipelines.

A hot tap is the process of cutting a new connection into a pressurized pipeline without shutting off flow or draining the line. It's used for adding service connections, valves, or branch lines on active water, wastewater, and industrial pipelines, minimizing service disruption and downtime.

A line stop temporarily isolates a section of pressurized pipe using a folding or pivoting head inserted through a tapped fitting, allowing valve replacement, repairs, or pipe removal without draining or shutting down the entire system.
