A folding head or pivoting head linestop machine is used to temporarily stop a water pipe under live flow conditions. The machine is inserted through a hot-tapped branch fitting and expanded to seal the pipe bore. Schallert's folding heads cover pipe sizes from 8 to 84 inches with pressure ratings up to 250 psi, allowing maintenance without shutting down service.

Sealing off a water line is accomplished through a line stopping operation: hot tap the pipe, install a linestop housing over the tapped fitting, insert a folding or pivoting head through the valve, and actuate it to seal the bore. Once work is complete, a completion plug is set using a plug setter tool. Schallert provides all equipment needed for each step of this process.

Schallert's pivoting head linestop machines handle up to 450 psi at 250°F for high-pressure and high-temperature applications. Plug setters (PS0410, PS0616, PS1836) are rated to 500 psi. Folding head assemblies are rated up to 250 psi, with sealing elements typically rated up to 150 psi depending on the model selected.
