Pipe Drilling Machines

For low-pressure PVC lines, a standard drill with a sharp bit sized to the fitting is typically sufficient. For pressurized PVC mains requiring a live connection, a hot tapping machine with a compatible tapping adapter and cutter is used so the hole is drilled and sealed without depressurizing or draining the line.

Hot tapping machines drill into pressurized pipelines to create new branch connections, install valves, or set up line stop fittings without interrupting service. They're widely used in water, wastewater, gas, and industrial pipeline maintenance, allowing repairs and modifications while the system stays fully operational.

Schallert Enterprises' lineup covers taps from 3/4" up to 72" in diameter. Smaller electric models like the TM100 handle 0.75"-3" lines, mid-range hydraulic units like the TM250 and TM300 cover 4"-30", and heavy-duty machines like the TM6120 handle 24"-72" diameter pipelines.

A tapping machine drills and cuts the initial hole into a pressurized pipe. A line stop machine—using folding or pivoting heads—then inserts a sealing element through that opening to fully block flow, allowing downstream repairs, valve replacement, or pipe section removal without draining the system.

Both options are available. Smaller machines like the TM100 and TM200 run on 110V electric drills, while larger units such as the TM300, TM400, and TM6120 require hydraulic power supplies rated up to 21 GPM at 2000 psi for higher torque and larger diameter cutting.

A completion plug setter installs a permanent sealing plug into the line stop fitting after maintenance or repair work is finished, allowing the folding head and tapping equipment to be removed while the plug maintains pipeline integrity. Setters range from compact 4"-10" units to larger 18"-36" models.
