Hot Tap Cutters & Holesaws

Hot tapping is performed using a tapping machine equipped with the correct cutter — typically a carbide-tipped or HSS multi-tooth holesaw. The machine advances the cutter through the pipe wall while maintaining pressure integrity. This is done without shutting off flow, using machines rated to 350 psi or higher.

Carbide-tipped holesaws and multi-tooth cutters are the standard choice for hot tap applications on most pipeline materials. Diamond-segment cutters are used for concrete-lined pipe. Schallert Enterprises manufactures large-diameter holesaws in multiple styles — including carbide, HSS, and diamond segment options — compatible with most tapping machines.

Snap cutters (also called soil pipe cutters) are not suitable for hot tap or pressurized applications. For pressurized pipelines or large-diameter pipe, carbide-tipped holesaws mounted on a rated tapping machine are the appropriate and safe choice — regardless of pipe material.

Schallert Enterprises' tapping machines and cutting kits are rated for up to 350 psi. This includes the TM100 add-on kits, TM200 electric machine, TM250 hydraulic machine, and TM400 large-diameter hydraulic machine. This makes them suitable for most pressurized municipal water and industrial pipeline applications.

Schallert manufactures cutters from under 4 inches up to 72 inches in diameter. Electric machines like the TM200 handle 3" to 12" taps, hydraulic machines like the TM250 cover 4" to 14", and the TM400 handles 16" to 48" taps. Diamond-segment cutters extend cutting capability to 72 inches.
